About the Boys' AotW:

Alex O’Dell has been a fixture on the course for the Warriors over the last four years and he’s racked up a number of individual honors including this year’s Jefferson District golfer of the year award. But there was likely nothing sweeter for the senior than finishing tied for fifth place at the state tournament with teammate Landon Weis, an effort that lifted Western to its first state title in seven years.

About the Girls' AotW:

Williams had two solid games as Monticello held onto its position in the top half of the Jefferson District with a win over Charlottesville where the setter had 20 assists and nine digs. She was also strong during a 5-game match with Powhatan that proved that any squad drawing the Mustangs in the postseason is going to have a fight on their hands. Williams had 29 assists and nine digs in the narrow loss to the Indians.

About the Boys' AotW:

Childress has been to the Group AA tournament as an individual, but he wanted to go with his team this year. He made sure he did just that by torching Old Trail with a 71 to earn medalist honors in the Region II tournament, sparking the Mustangs to a region title and a state tournament berth.

About the Girls' AotW:

Gampper’s goal in overtime against Covenant last week made it very clear that St. Anne’s-Belfield’s field hockey team, a program that’s been dormant for a few years, is turning the corner. Gampper buried a shot on a short corner off a pass by Elise Van Arsdale to lift the Saints past the Eagles and continued a surge by the STAB hockey program that could make the postseason an interesting one for the Saints.
