Alderson Broaddus kickstarting program

by Bart Isley   |   February 1st, 2012

A number of players across the state of Virginia, including Charlottesville's Mason Sherry have committed or are signing on today to join the newly-created football program at Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia.

We’ve seen a number of smaller colleges in West Virginia make an impact on recruiting here in Central Virginia like Glenville State. But this is one of the more unique cases, where a program is being built from scratch.

Here’s a story on how, and why, that program is being developed.

Referees make it happen

by Bob Isley   |   January 26th, 2012

One of our recent photo purchases was of a referee in action. Although I was surprised, as I thought about what it might mean, it became clear. Referees want a lasting record of their work just like any other participant in the game.

Least cool reaction to a verbal commitment ever

by Bart Isley   |   January 6th, 2012

Video: Maybe Mom shouldn’t come to your signing day ceremony.

I’m not really a recruiting junkie. I don’t care that much about star-ratings and top-150 lists of kids I’ve never seen play. I'm not judging or anything, it’s just never been my thing.

But last night I watched a little bit of the second half Under Armour All-American game on ESPN in the second half (the uniforms were absolutely awesome). I couldn’t have had better timing.

First look at baseball field construction at CHS

by Bart Isley   |   November 8th, 2011

Apparently the football/soccer/lacrosse/field hockey stadium field isn't the only facility at Charlottesville getting an overhaul this year. Charlottesville has broken ground on a revamp of the baseball stadium too. This project continues a massive upgrade of all CHS's athletic facilties, with the gymnasium getting the first treatment with a brand new floor, bleachers and lights among other improvements.

The baseball field will be outfitted with a new infield, outfield, irrigation system and fence when the project is complete.

Olaniyan excited? No...never...

by Bart Isley   |   November 2nd, 2011

Nobody ever accused Aramide Olaniyan of lacking passion during his time at Woodberry Forest where he became a highly-recruited linebacker prospect before landing at UCLA. Clearly college has done nothing to dampen his spirits. Here's a story about Olaniyan's first tackle as a Bruin.

Miller's White snags monster offer

by Bart Isley   |   September 9th, 2011

There's a few programs out there that you absolutely want to get a call from if you're a standout basketball player. The legendary level programs like North Carolina, Duke, Indiana, Kentucky and UCLA come to mind. Those traditional superpowers.

Miller's Andrew White got one of those calls. From coach Bill Self of Kansas. His hometown paper, the Progress-Index, has the story.
